Dubai creek in dubai uae, historic waterway with wooden abras, deira and bur dubai skyline, traditional trading port area in uae 7-day itinerary

If you want to understand Dubai beyond its skyline, starting your trip in Old Dubai is the best way to begin your one week in UAE itinerary. This area shows the city’s roots before the skyscrapers, luxury malls, and modern developments took over.

Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood (Old Dubai Area)

Start your morning in Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood.

It is one of the most oldest parts of Dubai. You will see traditional sand-colored houses, narrow walking streets and wind towers that were used in the past to cool homes before air conditioning.

There are also small museums, art spaces and cafes. This area is perfect for slow walking and learning about Dubai’s early lifestyle.

Dubai Creek & Abra Ride (Traditional Boat Experience)

Next, head to Dubai Creek.

Dubai Creek is a natural water area that played an important role in Dubai’s trading history.

Here you can take an abra ride, which is a small wooden boat used for crossing the water. It is very cheap and only takes a few minutes but it is one of the most famous experiences in Dubai.

During the ride, you will see old Dubai on one side and modern buildings on the other.

Gold Souk (Famous Gold Market)

After the creek, visit the Gold Souk.

This is a traditional market where many shops sell gold jewellery. The lanes are narrow and full of shining displays in every direction.

Even if you are not buying anything, it is interesting to walk through and see one of the largest gold markets in the world.

Spice Souk (Traditional Local Market)

The Spice Souk is just a short walk from the Gold Souk.

This market is full of spices, herbs, tea, dried fruits and perfumes. The smell is strong and very unique.

It is a good place to experience local culture and see how traditional trading markets still work in Dubai.

Global Village (Seasonal) – Shopping + Cultural Experience

If you are visiting between winter months, Global Village is worth considering.

Is 7 Days Enough for UAE?

Yes, 7 days is enough to explore the UAE comfortably if you focus on Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

This is one of the most common questions travelers ask when planning their first trip. In one week, you can see the main highlights without rushing from Old Dubai’s traditional areas, modern landmarks like Burj Khalifa, Dubai Marina and beaches plus a full-day trip to Abu Dhabi to visit the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and other key sights.

A simple way to plan it is:

  • 4–5 days in Dubai (covering different areas step by step)
  • 1 day in Abu Dhabi
  • 1 flexible day for shopping, rest or anything you missed

This balance lets you experience both the modern and cultural side of the UAE while still keeping the trip relaxed and easy to follow especially if it’s your first visit.

Best Weather to Visit the UAE

The best time to visit the UAE is during the cooler months from November to March, when the weather is perfect for sightseeing, desert safaris, and outdoor attractions. Daytime temperatures are comfortable (around 24°C to 30°C) and evenings are pleasantly cool making it ideal for exploring Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

From April to October, the weather becomes extremely hot, often exceeding 40°C in peak summer. During this period most activities shift indoors such as malls, aquariums and museums.

If you want the best overall experience with outdoor tours, beaches and city exploration, winter season is the perfect time to visit the UAE.
